The Different Types of Diet Pills in the Market

You may be thinking that once you’ve seen a particular weight-loss pill, you’ve seen them all. But that is not necessarily the case. Not all diet pills are alike. Each pill being sold in the market has different health benefits and possible side effects if these are to be taken in excessive amounts.

Diet pills are categorized into two types: Prescription pills and over-the-counter (OTC) pills. That is why before you make a certain choice on what may be favorable to you, it’s best that you understand how each type works.

Prescription Pills:
Diet pills which fall into this bracket are usually known to produce a better effect on the person since these types are prescribed by health physicians or dieticians, and are generally, monitored for results. However, without medical supervision during the course of intake of these drugs, it’s possible that harmful side effects may occur.

Prescription pills fall into different categories which include those diet pills that act as neurotransmitters of the brain, those that act as a barrier for fat digesting enzymes, and others that – although they are designed to work on other health factors such as depression and epilepsy – are also being used as a good diet drug alternative for health buffs and others who are having a hard time to lose weight.

Non-Prescription Pills:
Non-prescription drugs once carried a particular substance known as ephedra that was discovered to cause sudden death and arrhythmia to those taking them. Ephedra was, basically made to help dieters lose weight by increasing the heart rate and metabolism of the person, and producing more energy.

But, since it was discovered to have adverse reactions, the FDA (Food and Drug Authority) banned their use, and, instead, incorporated green tea, bitter orange, and the herbal equivalents of ephedra known as hoodia (plant-based) and chitosan (garnered from shellfish) in the attempt to produce the same effect.

But then, even though both prescription and non-prescription pills are made to work on different mechanisms, it doesn’t mean that they will actually work as such since the effects are also known to be different with each individual. But, as long as this is coupled with exercise and good eating habits, and certain pill dosages in a day are followed, there’s a higher chance that all will go smoothly for you. 

With all these things circulating around the drug society, it is highly recommended to have a check-up first before settling for a choice on what will work for you from the different diet pills in the market.
